Partial History of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church

History

Information from November 1925-1972 was supplied by the late Sis. Margaret Crump, a chartered member. The later years were given by the late Sis. Freda Lee Sanders.

  • 1925- November 5, the church we organized by the later Rev. S.G. Gustus, he served as pastor for 18 months.

  • 1927-1928 the later Rev. R.S. Page served nine months.

  • 1928 Rev. J.R. Plummer served until 1940.

  • 1940- The late Rev. C.D. Knight served until 1953, he built a new building after the old building burned (old theater). 

  • 1953- May 4, the Rev. Alvin White, Sr. served unto death November 30, 1982.  He purchased this building on faith, without money.  Rev. White paid the church note off within twelve years on tithes and offerings.  Rev. White also organized the Christian Brotherhood District Association.  He organized the school of Religion Day Care and he served a street preacher in both Ministers’ Union.  And many other untold things.

  • 1982-1990, December 7, Rev. R.K. Kizzee served until death.  Rev. Kizzee gave the front entrance our new look, purchase vans and bibles.  He had other deeds in the Ministers’ union.  Each Saturday, he led the outreach mission in homes, nursing homes, and the street ministry.

  • 1990, due to Rev. Kizzee’s untimely death and so the church wouldn’t go without leadership. For four months, the late Rev. Michael S. Okray, Sr., Associate Minster, led the congregation through its grieving period and in our search for a new leader.

  • Since 1991, our pastor, Rev. S.L. Johnson, Sr. has served as the Pastor of the Greater Shiloh Church.  Rev. S.L. Johnson, Sr. first official meeting was December 31, 1990 on Watch Meeting Night.  He encouraged the members to work together in Love.  Love is in the Air at the Greater Shiloh Baptist Church.  A few accomplishments by Rev. Johnson: He remolded the choir gallery, paved the parking lots, purchased new vans, a lighted outside church sign, new bibles, paid out all major indebt ness, and many other numerous accomplishments.  He’s a graduate of the Southern Bible College.  He’s First vice moderator of the True Fellowship District Association.  He’s a teacher in the Dallas Baptist Minister’s Union.  On November 29, 2001 he was elected President of the Oak Cliff Baptist Ministers’ Union, where he served two consecutive terms. Also, under his leadership we Greater Shiloh has hosted the City-Wide revival noon day services for the past seven years.

  • 2018 Pastor S.L. Johnson, Sr. stayed faithful until his death, He has gained his wings and is finally resting in the bosom of Jesus, November 7, 2018.

  • Rev. D.H. Johnson, Jr Associate Minister led the church during Pastor Johnson’s sickness and through its grieving period. We thank God for his faithfulness.

  • February 2019 the pulpit was declared vacant by the chairman of the church Deacon Paul Searl and the deacon board. A decision was made by the church body to create search committee to search for a pastor.

  • March 2019, Rev. Stephen Searl reunited with the church and was asked by the deacons of the church to take charge of the pulpit under the direction of the chairman and the deacon board.  

  • March 15, 2020 Rev. Stephen Searl became our Pastor Elect. 

  • The Word of God gives the church reason to remain faithful unto the end.  Fear none of these things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye maybe tried; and we shall have tribulations ten days:  be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.  Revelations 2:10.
